Basic Fields & Options

All nodes have the following basic fields and options in common:

  • Title: The title of the node
  • Body: The main text of the node
  • Log message: An internal diary of actions performed to this node
  • Input format: Determines how the main text should be formatted
  • Authoring information: Who created this node, when and when it was last updated
  • Publishing options: Controls if this node should be available on the website
  • Menu settings: Determines if the node is accessible directly from the menu
  • File attachments: Allows one or more files to be attached
  • URL path settings: Allows the Drupal assigned URL path to this node to be replaced
  • Preview button: Display the changes without saving the node
  • Submit button: Save changes and display the node

There are a lot of options available, however the two most important and required options are:

  • Title
  • Body

These two fields must be completed before the node can be published to the website.

Exercise:

Create and submit a new Story:

  1. Login to the website
  2. Create a new Story
  3. Complete the Title and Body fields
  4. Click on the Submit button
  5. The new Story should now be displayed
