Endian makes it possible to set up your network in an unlimited number of configurations suited to your business needs. But rather than reinvent the wheel, there are a number of common configurations that people deploy and this page details some of these setups.
Connecting your network to the Internet
Here are a couple of examples as to how you can connect your network to the Internet in a safe, protected way.
Small to medium sized network
This is a standard network configured with your network on one side and the internet on the other. Clean, simple.
High Internet availability
This is a standard network with a high Internet availability requirement. You can configure Endian to connect to multiple Internet service providers (ISP) and forward certain outgoing traffic through a specific ISP and provide redundancy if one goes down.
Load balancing Endians
Another strategy to mitigate the risk associated with having all your traffic go through one point is to have multiple firewalls and share the load across these systems. You can set up Endian to provide different parts of your network a separate firewall for speed and in the event of failure, step in for the firewall not doing its job.
Securely connecting over the Internet to your network
While firewalls have been protecting our networks for a number of years, it is becoming more and more common for something, be it a person or another network, to want to get in to our network from the Internet. Here are just a couple of the common configurations for virtual private networks supported by Endian.
Employees connecting to your network
If some of your employees spend a lot of time on the road and need access to resources at the office, then this is a common configuration. Set up a laptop with the credentials required to authenticate against your firewall and regardless of where they are, provided they have access to the internet, it will look like their connected directly to your network. Outlook, shared drives, customer relationship management software and access to your intranet are just some of the things they'll have access to.
Network to network
Have offices in two different cities? You can configure Endian to make them appear as one network. You might host your Intranet in your head office and you can set up a VPN so that both offices have access to it without any strange firewall rules or ports. Or you could manage one DNS server for both offices, decreasing your maintenance time. The opportunities are endless!
