Endian Firewall Hardware Requirements
The minimum hardware requirements for Endian Firewall Community Edition or Endian Firewall Software are simple:
- two network cards, and
- the hardware must be compatible with the Linux operating system . See this great Linux.com article for more details.
You can verify compatibility of the hardware by simply downloading and installing a copy of the CentOS 4.6 operating system. If CentOS installs correctly and you can access the network, CDROM, access a terminal and drives then this is a good indication that your hardware is Linux operating compatible. Most problems with compatibility are due to proprietary drivers which are not available on Linux. As a general rule you can avoid this problem by using either Realtek or Intel chipset based network cards, on-board video only or an older NVidia based graphics cards and do not use software RAID. Using the newest hardware available should also be avoided, instead use hardware which has been around for 12+ months.
It is also important to note that your hardware requirements will increase based on the role and usage of the Firewall in your network and so should be scaled accordingly.
