Drupal Navigator for Natural Resource Management
The NRM Navigator is a set of online tools and databases that make it easier for NRM professionals to find and share information. Initially the concept design was produced by the Knowledge for Regional NRM Program at Land & Water Australia and was initially funded by the Australian Government through the Natural Heritage Trust.
Agileware was approached to provide improvements to the site functionality which allowed evidence bases to be assigned to a region. A region was to be a clickable area using Google mapping functionality and would display evidence bases for that region if clicked.
The implemented solution covered the requirements and provided a number of improvements back to the Drupal community.
- Google maps integration
- Modifications were made to the Gmap module's javascript core that allowed for users to click and place multiple points on a single Google map (base Gmap functionality only allows for one point per map). The Gmap module's views integration was also enhanced to allow for multiple location points to be displayed as a polygon on the map.
- Location integration
- The Location module's location widget was modified to support multiple locations on a single map during editing (so users could utilise the changes to the gmap javascript that were mentioned above).
- Process diagrams
- Process diagrams were taken from an external application, converted into a format where they could be browsed online, security checked and made accessible from the website. This was just part of the workflow kicked off with a simple upload of a process diagram file.
The NRM Navigtor site continues to be improved and updated on a regular basis.
