Drupal Website for Australian Medical Association

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) is an independent organisation and the Australia's
biggest and most influential health advocacy organisation for doctors and patients. It represents the public face of Australian medicine.

The AMA’s 27,000 members embody all sections of the medical profession - GPs, specialists, doctors in training, medical students, researchers and academics - from all States and Territories.

In 2008, Agileware responded to a Request for Tender for the re-development of the AMA website. Requirements of the tender included:

  • Creation of a unique design utilising AMA's corporate design standards
  • Provide an easy to use, extensible and scalable content management system
  • Perform data migration from the existing Lotus Domino based content management system
  • Integrate the website's user authentication system with the iMIS system on Microsoft's .NET development platform.
  • Integrate the content management system's user authentication system with AMA's Directory Service, LDAP.
  • Provide website and content management system hosting and support services
  • Provide staff training in the content management system and documentation

Agileware was selected by AMA as the winning bid for the tender.

During this project, Agileware delivered:

  • Three unique website designs. Working in collaboration with the AMA a final website design was created
  • Agileware's existing Lotus Domino to Drupal data migration code. This was used to automate the migration process, clean-up HTML and validate all existing Lotus Domino content. Content, taxonomies and content categoration were automatically migrated.
  • The Funnelback Search Engine enabling full-text searching of website content, Office documents and PDFs. As well as searching of member-only content for authorised users.
  • User authentication capable of validating user credentials using either Drupal, LDAP or the iMIS system.
  • Ability to upload and attach audio and video content to pages with an in-page player displayed
  • RSS news feeds for all aspects of the website
  • Custom workflow approval process for the draft, review and publishing of web content
  • Detailed version control and management, with the ability to view changes between versions and include files as part of the revision process

Since the launch of the AMA website, visitor traffic has increased dramatically providing an immediate indication of the return on investment for this website.

Agileware continue to provide support and hosting services for AMA.
